John R.T. Monson, MD, FRCS (Ire (Hon), Eng, Ed (Hon), Glas (Hon)), FASCRS, FACS, is a colon and rectal surgeon, fellowship trained in colorectal surgery and surgical oncology. He graduated from Trinity College Dublin in Ireland and trained at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Mayo Clinic and The University of Leeds.  His areas of expertise include the use of minimally invasive technologies in colorectal cancer treatment, including Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery (TEMS and TAMIS), laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery. Dr. Monson is credited with leading the development of laparoscopic colorectal surgery in the United Kingdom and was the Founding Chair of the U.K.’s National Training Program. He has performed over 10,000 resections for colorectal cancer.  His research encompasses a broad range of cancer related areas, including the development of national standards in cancer care and qualitative assessments of decision-making in cancer care. He is a current member of the Commission on Cancer and Steering Committee for the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC).  He is the Director of the Rectal Cancer Program at AHCI.
