Dr. Muhammad K. Hasan is a clinical gastroenterologist specializing in advanced endoscopic procedures including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), advanced polyp resection techniques (endoscopic mucosal resection EMR/endoscopic submucosal dissection, ESD) and more.
Dr. Hasan completed his Internal Medicine residency and Gastroenterology fellowship training at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City and then two years of advanced endoscopy training at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville for EUS and at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston for ERCP in 2010. He is a staff physician at AdventHealth, Orlando (formerly known as Florida Hospital) since 2010 and helped establish the Center for Interventional Endoscopy, CIE at Florida Hospital in 2013. The Center for Interventional Endoscopy is a premier endoscopy center with a national and international reputation for clinical care and clinical research serving the needs of over 6000 patients annually. Dr. Hasan is currently the Medical Director of CIE.
Dr. Hasan's interests include clinical research, trainee and professional education and innovation in endoscopic techniques. His research focuses on clinical outcomes associated with endoscopic procedures as well as clinical disease states. He has initiated many research projects independently and has participated in multiple multi-center projects as a co-investigator resulting in over 70 original publications, including premier journals such as Gut, Gastroenterology, Endoscopy and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He has authored book chapters as well.
Dr. Hasan is passionate about teaching. He established the Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship (AEF) at CIE in 2013 and has served as the program director for the AEF since its inception. During this time, he has trained 13 advanced endoscopy fellows from the USA and from abroad. In addition, he has mentored medical students and residents. Several of his mentees have been accepted in GI Fellowship training programs. He is in the planning committee for the establishment of a General Gastroenterology Fellowship program at AdventHealth, Orlando. He is actively engaged in professional education, and has been an invited speaker at multiple local/regional, national, and international conferences. He also has visited several underserved areas outside of the USA to help with endoscopic training. In addition, at CIE, his team recently started a monthly webinar that focuses on endoscopy techniques using a combination of didactic and live case demonstration.
He is actively engaged in professional societies and is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow. He has served as a member and the chair of the Annual Scientific Program Committee for American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and Digestive Diseases Week (DDW), the largest annual international gastroenterology meeting and regularly review abstracts for annual American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) meetings.
